I just interviewed sociologist, forensic social worker, and award-winning researcher Evan Stark, associate professor of public administration at Rutgers University. We discussed his work on the subject of coercive control, a term he coined in his groundbreaking 2007 book of the same name. The concept is changing the way the law considers and prosecutes domestic abuse, here and in the UK. When men police their partners and control every aspect of their lives, instilling fear of violence through intimidation, isolation, stalking, and sexual abuse, they often leave few physical scars but plenty of emotional ones. I'll post the story when it goes live for WebMD.
