In 2017, I interviewed 14 of the world's leading scientists and advocates who work tirelessly to save our dying oceans. This special feature appeared in Coastal Living Magazine and was one of the first stories in the mainstream media to sound the alarm on the dangers of microplastics. Working on it inspired me to make change locally; I launched an anti-plastics youth group called PEP (Pelham Eliminates Plastics), which I mentored for seven years. The group successfully lobbied to ban plastic bags in our region, rid plastic utensils from our local schools, held Earth Day events, and raised awareness among the next generation of green advocates.
